A few years ago at Friendsgiving, my wife Freya and I gathered five jars of our favorite honeys to share with friends. What started as a simple idea turned into one of my favorite memories and has since become a bit of a party trick (I even recreated it recently for my parents’ wedding anniversary celebration). We sat around the living room passing jars, tasting each one, jotting down our notes, and sharing our thoughts on the differences between them.

It quickly got competitive in the best way. I gave out prizes to the friends who guessed the most accurately and the most creatively, and by the end, I’d created a lot more honey fanatics.
