5 Wellness Boosting Teas to Pair Your Honey With

A cup of tea or 'cuppa', as it's affectionately known in New Zealand, is a classic daily ritual. Whether it be an English Breakfast to start the day or a soothing Chamomile to wind down in the evening,  we all find time to sit down and enjoy our favourite  cuppa. Both tea and Mānuka Honey are known to have natural health benefits, so we’ve listed 5 beautiful combinations for you to brew the ultimate hot drink.

Now before we jump in, it's worth noting that the natural enzymes which give Mānuka Honey its antibacterial properties are heat sensitive.  This is why our honey is  unpasteurised - to retain as much of its natural goodness as possible. So how can we enjoy honey in our tea? Just don't add honey to boiling hot water - let the tea brew for a couple minutes first and leave to cool down a bit before stirring in a spoonful of honey. 

Now that we've cleared that up - let's get into 5 of our favourite teas to pair with Mānuka Honey:

1. Green Tea

Green tea is jam-packed with nutrients and antioxidants which can have positive effects on your health. Pair this with the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of Mānuka Honey and you have yourself a well-rounded overall health boosting cup of tea!

2. Rooibos Tea

Rooibos (pronounced ROY-boss) is another tea that is high in antioxidants as well as being great for your heart, skin and bone health. Unlike green tea, rooibos is caffeine free which makes it a great alternative for those who are sensitive to caffeine. Add some Mānuka Honey into the mix? Tea-licious!

3. Oolong Tea

A traditional Chinese tea, Oolong tea is high in polyphenols, which are linked to lowering inflammation. Due to the caffeine content it can be a great replacement for a cup of coffee. Mixed with a touch of Mānuka Honey it can be a great pick-me-up that should keep you going for oo-long time! 

4. Chamomile Tea

Popular for being a soothing and calming tea to help people relax, recent studies suggest that Chamomile can help with lowering blood sugar and promoting digestion. This is paired well with Mānuka Honey, with its natural anti-inflammatory properties.

5. Ginger, Lemon & Turmeric Tonic

Whilst not a being a traditional tea, we couldn't finish off this list without mentioning this all-natural, immune-boosting herbal concoction! Turmeric contains a compound called curcumin which boasts amazing healing properties. Ginger has been shown to have powerful immune-boosting properties. Throw that in with lemon which is a natural detoxifier and alkaliser (not to mention high in Vitamin C - hello immune system booster!)  and Mānuka Honey and you end up with a simple and delicious tonic to fight ills and chills or give your body a good detoxing.

Simply throw in a 1 tbsp of freshly grated turmeric, 1 tbsp freshly grated ginger and 1 whole lemon squeezed into a pot along with 3 cups of water - bring to a simmer over low heat for 3 minutes and turn off. Allow the tonic to cool before adding in 1-2 tbsp of Mānuka Honey Strain over a mug and add water if needed and enjoy.
